What Mission Control is
Mission Control is a file or dashboard the assistant reads before deciding what to do. It should not be a long archive. It is the steering layer for active work.
It answers: what matters now, what is active, what is blocked, what the human owns, what the assistant owns, and where to resume after interruption.
The essential fields
- Highest Priority: the current main outcome.
- Active Projects: status, next action, owner, blocker, resume point.
- User-Owned Items: decisions, approvals, access, inputs.
- Assistant-Owned Items: safe tasks the assistant can move forward.
- Blockers: honest missing pieces.
- Resume Points: where a fresh session should restart.

When to update Mission Control
Update Mission Control after meaningful work blocks, when priorities change, when a blocker appears, when a user gives approval, and before ending a session with unfinished work.
For active business operations, review it on a schedule. For personal projects, review it at the beginning and end of focused work sessions.
Mission Control anti-patterns
- Making it too long to review.
- Using vague statuses like “in progress” without a next action.
- Hiding blockers.
- Mixing every project detail into the control layer.
- Forgetting to update resume points.

How long should Mission Control be?
